Day of the Dead: After Dark

Join us on November 1st when we’ll be open for extended hours until 8 pm. This month’s theme is Noche de Ofrendas in observance of Día de los Muertos.

Join the UIC Rafael Cintrón Latino Cultural Center in the West Wing as they demonstrate how to create traditional and interactive ofrenda dedicated to Berta Caceres. Learn about the important aspects that go into creating an ofrenda for a loved one, while honoring the life of Berta Cáceres.

Berta Cáceres was a Honduran environmental and human rights activist. She was pivotal in stopping the construction of the Agua Zarca Dam, which was in violation of the rights of the indigenous Lenca people. Cáceres was murdered in March 2016 for her activism. The people of Honduras continue to fight to obtain justice for Cáceres.

Our galleries will remain open to the public until 8pm. It’s the perfect time to see the Día de los Muertos: Tilica y flaca es la calaca exhibition.
