Holy Cross/Immaculate Heart of Mary Marimba Ensemble

The Holy Cross/Immaculate Heart of Mary Marimba Ensemble is a group spanning almost three decades, playing the Marimba, a xylophone-like instrument with a deeper pitch. The marimba is played in several countries in Latin America, especially in Guatemala and the Mexican state of Chiapas.

The Marimba Ensemble program was founded at Holy Cross as a positive cultural learning experience for the youth of the school. The mentorship that the students received was also a very positive experience. That mentoring built leadership in the students that became contagious because those same youth began mentoring new players. Those same new players would grow to become talented musicians and teach the new students

The Ensemble has performed at numerous events throughout the Chicagoland area.

This concert is part of the Sor Juana Festival, which serves to honor one of Mexico’s greatest writers, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, as well as to celebrate and showcase the rich artistic accomplishments of Mexican women from Mexico and the United States. The Festival also honors Mexican women leaders as a testimony to the enduring spirit of Sor Juana.

This event is free, however registration is required.
