Summary: In 1930, Diego Rivera wrote an article for Mexican Folkways magazine, extolling Mardonio Magaña as “the greatest contemporary Mexican sculptor.”  The National Museum of Mexican Art holds the largest intact collection of Magaña’s work outside of Mexico.  Delve into thirteen of his enchanting direct carvings in wood, the life story of Mardonio Magaña and the back-story of two of his collectors, Hollywood musicians, Annette and Louis Kaufman.
