Woven: Connections and Meanings

Friday, October 25, 2019 – April 19, 2020
In the Rubin & Paula Torres Gallery

Opening reception Friday, October 25, 6 – 8PM

Woven: Connections and Meanings includes the work of five contemporary Mexican and Mexican American women artists who have undertaken an age-old utilitarian tradition, sacred yet in many occasions undervalued. These artists now weave fresh narratives that address the US-Mexico border, immigration, identity, environment, materiality and resistance.  Tanya Aguiñiga, Florencia Guillén, Consuelo Jimenez Underwood, Marta Palau and Georgina Valverde are compelling and dynamic voices that connect the practice of textile art with concepts of social justice and activism.
