After-school Art Classes

Since 2004, the Education Department has been offering high quality, year-round after-school classes through grant partnerships with Chicago Public Schools.  Classes include visual arts, dance, theater and music, and integrate reading and writing.  Currently, our after-school art programs range from four days a week for thirty weeks a year to two days a week for ten to twelve weeks.  Depending on program goals, after school programs can have additional components such as parent classes and workshops, family enrichment activities, teacher professional development and mentor/

Family Sundays

The National Museum of Mexican Art’s Education Department offers year-round family days for every exhibition. Families participate in gallery tours and create art together during these fun and engaging sessions. Sundays 12 p.m.–2 p.m.

Reservations are required for all children programs. Fees vary by class and include art materials. To register your child for classes or for more information on course offerings, please call (312) 433-3842.

After-school Art Classes

New Program!

Throughout the school year, museum artists teach children (ages seven to 12) various art techniques and media and learn about the fundamentals of art.  Classes are 3:30 p.m.–5 p.m., once or twice a week for 12–14 sessions.  Classes take place during fall, winter and spring sessions.

Childred & Family Programs

The NMMA offers children (ages four to 12) and families the opportunity to learn about art and culture through weekend, after-school and summer classes. Class themes are tied to our permanent and temporary exhibitions and integrate the galleries into the learning experience.

School Programs

The NMMA’s school programs are designed to be a learning experience integrating a regular K-12 classroom’s curriculum and Museum-developed art and culture-based units.  These programs are offered at the Museum and at individual classrooms for little or no cost. Many of the schools the Education Department serves become long-term partners in increasing student learning and academic achievement.

Teen Programs

The National Museum of Mexican Art offers two engaging programs for teens that encourage the exploration of art, culture and creativity while helping to develop important life skills.
