Call for Photos: Covid19 Memorial Ofrenda

The 2021 exhibition, Día de Muertos- A Time to Grieve & Remember, pays tribute to and remembers the numerous individuals from México and the U.S. who in the past two years have died from COVID-19. During the pandemic, many of us were heartbroken to be unable to spend time with our loved ones. As we are now able to gather, though still with precautions, we join together to grieve and remember the ones we lost during these two years. The collective act of mourning is a fundamental aspect of annual Day of the Dead commemorations, and offers a healing way to acknowledge, accept and bear the inevitable.

As a part of this exhibition, we invite you to submit photos of loved ones who have passed away due to COVID-19. These photos will be incorporated into a large installation and ofrenda for this exhibition. With the photo, we are asking for the person(s) name and life dates (birth year and year of passing). We hope to honor them, and incorporate their spirit into our annual tradition.

Please use a portrait photo of the deceased that is at least 72 pixels per inch. We recommend not to submit group photos unless all the people in the photo are being honored. In respecting the ritual of Día de los Muertos, we ask that you only submit photographs of people. Please do not submit photos of pets or animals.

The name and photo associated with your Google account will be recorded when you upload files and submit this form.
