Hugo Brehme

1882–1954

The profile of a bald man

Hugo Brehme was a photographer that founded an artistic photography studio in Mexico City. His photos of the people, culture, and landscapes of a modernizing Mexico were frequently used on postcards, tourist guides and magazines. The Mexican Revolution was another subject he documented extensively along with Agustín Casasola. A large selection of his photographs were donated to NMMA in 1991. His work largely influenced the photographer Manuel Álvarez Bravo and the cinematographer Gabriel Figueroa.
