Graciela Iturbide is an internationally regarded photographer. While she originally studied film directing, she eventually dedicated herself to still photography after studying and working with Manuel Álvarez Bravo. Her photography documenting cultural traditions throughout Mexico were featured in the exhibition, Imágenes del espíritu: Photography by Graciela Iturbide at the NMMA in 1999.
