Donate Artwork
The National Museum of Mexican Art’s collection goal is to acquire artwork by Mexican and Mexican-descent artists that builds on the strengths of our existing collection:
- Pre-Cuauhtémoc artifacts
- Ephemera
- Prints and drawings
- Paintings and sculpture
- Arte popular
- Photography
- Textiles and regional dress
The Museum's permanent collection is built by the generosity of art donors and living artists. We do not appraise objects. To begin the review process for an artwork donation, please submit a cover letter and state if the work(s) is intended for purchase or donation. Also include:
- Your contact information: name, mailing and email addresses, and daytime phone number.
- Images of the work(s) to be considered, labeled with the artist’s name, title of work, date of work, medium and dimensions.
- How, when and where the piece(s) was acquired.
- Biographical information on lesser-known artists.
- Copies of relevant articles, reviews or exhibition catalogues.
Submitted information that is approved by the permanent collection curator will be presented to the Permanent Collection Committee, which meets a quarterly. If the artwork is accepted, we will contact the donor with a formal gift agreement and make arrangements for transferring the property. Although efforts are made to exhibit recent acquisitions, we cannot guarantee it. You can be assured that all donated artwork will be preserved and made accessible to a greater audience for years to come. All donations are unconditional and irrevocable.
Please send your artwork donation information to:
