Día de los Muertos Xicágo

October 26, 2024, 3:00 pm

Join us on Saturday, October 26th as we celebrate Día de los Muertos by transforming the Museum and its surroundings into a beautiful space to remember our departed loved ones. Día de los Muertos is a time to honor loved ones who no longer walk this Earth. With flowers, food, and drinks, we await the joyful return of their souls.

On this special day at the Museum, guests can enjoy ofrendas created by community members, live musical performances, and art activities. At dusk, guests are welcomed to observe the illuminated ofrenda projecting the dearly departed larger than life. Bring your family and learn about this time-honored Mexican tradition.

Be on the lookout for the entertainment lineup coming soon!

We invite families and individuals to take part in the event by creating ofrendas (altars) in Harrison Park or by sharing a photograph of a departed loved one to be incorporated into a large photo memorial projected outdoors.

Read more details about creating your own ofrenda and reserve your spot here. Please note that spaces are limited.

Upload your picture for the photo memorial here by October 16th.

Below are some tips for submitting a photo:

  • Use a high-resolution photo portrait of the deceased person.
  • Do not submit group photos unless all the people in the photo have passed and are being honored
  • Files should be in JPEG formats

Día de los Muertos Xicágo is free and open to the public and will take place rain or shine.

This event is easily accessible via Chicago’s public transit system. Options include a ride on the CTA Pink Line train, using the Damen or 18th St. stops or take the #50 Damen Bus to 19th St. or the #9 Ashland Bust to 18th St.
