Drown Among the Dead :  A film screening followed by a conversation with artist and director Rubén Gutiérrez

November 11, 2026, 6:00 pm National Museum of Mexican Art

Join us for a film screening and Chicago debut of Drown Among the Dead directed by Mexican artist Rubén Gutiérrez— the inaugural Artist-in-Residence of the Lit & Luz Festival and the National Museum of Mexican Art. In Drown Among the Dead, an existential desert drama, the audience will reflect on solitude, emptiness, love, absurdity, fear of death, and the fragility of human passions.

After the screening, Gutiérrez will join Alivé Piliado, Curatorial Associate at NMMA, and Esteban King, Lit & Luz Artistic Director, for a conversation about the film’s themes, production, and creative direction.
