The printmaking of Mexico which is known throughout the world parallels its development with the Mexican mural renaissance of the 1920’s and 1930’s. Many of the artists involved in the mural movement of Mexico were also interested in printmaking. In it, they saw an art from that, like murals could be used for social change and education. Consequently, they founded the Taller de Gráfica Popular (Popular Graphic Workshop) in 1937. Print exhibitions were organized and sent all over the world by the Mexican government. The Taller catapulted graphic art into a significant role in Mexico. Leopoldo Méndez and Adolfo Mexiac are two artists who stand out from this collective. With this exhibition, the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum continued its commitment to introduce and present relevant latino artists to Chicago. Graphic work has been, for many decades, the most popular form of art which has transcended the borders of Mexico. Consequently, it is logical that we devoted our attention to this media through exhibitions such as this one.
