The Legacy of Gwen Araujo A Conversation with Sylvia Guerrero

March 4, 2023, 3:00 pm National Museum of Mexican Art

An advocate for transgender rights, Sylvia Guerrero joins us to talk about the life and legacy of her daughter Gwen Araujo. Gwen Amber Rose Araujo was from the Newark, California area and lived her life authentically as a beautiful transgender Mexican American young woman who began transitioning as a teenager, ready to embrace her true self. Her death gained international media attention and helped bring visibility to transgender hate crimes. She is remembered for her love of Gwen Stefani hence the name she chose when she began her transition.

Sylvia Guerrero will be interviewed by Reyna Ortiz. Reyna Ortiz is an advocate, activist and author fighting for the rights of Black/Brown Trans and Gender non-conforming (GNC) communities. Reyna works hands-on with her community, providing vital resources and has dedicated herself to building and working with her Trans/GNC communities.
