Under Pressure : Ana Teresa Fernández
Page Tools
Under Pressure marks the first solo exhibition by Ana Teresa Fernández in Chicago. Through video, installation, painting, and performance, Fernández invites us to confront a reality often silenced—the proximity of irreversible harm to our planet caused by human activity, as Earth’s natural rhythm of regeneration struggles to keep pace.
The exhibition emerges from a performance in which the artist presses the heel of her shoe against the surface of a white balloon filled with blue inks that evoke melting glaciers. This poetic act transforms into a visual metaphor: each blue-stained scroll becomes a reflection of the bodies of water spilling beyond their boundaries—an image of beauty and warning intertwined.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Fernández debuts S.O.S., a large-scale performance realized with hundreds of mirrors reflecting sunlight in Morse code, a universal language of urgency. Activated on the Ohio Street Beach in April during EXPO Chicago.
