Cartonería Workshop with Brittani Walker
Page Tools
This workshop invites participants ages 13+ to connect with Mexican culture through doll-making, using cartonería, a traditional Mexican technique like papier-mache. Over two sessions, participants will explore cartonería, using paste, sanding, painting, and applying finishes in a space that allows creative reflection on cultural identity.
Each participant will receive a cardboard doll base to which they can add elements such as hair, clothing, horns, wings, masks, or other personal and cultural symbols. The result will be a unique figure that represents their individual interpretation of their Mexican or Mexican-American identity through the language of folk art, such as devils, skulls, butterflies, jaguars, and more.
Please note: This two-day workshop will take place on October 4th and 5th from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
This workshop will be conducted in Spanish. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $100, which covers all necessary materials. To register, please email angela@nationalmuseumofmexicanart.org.
